Danica Oudeans Artist-In- residence

Danica Oudeans is an artist, educator, and small business owner from Wisconsin. She grew up just outside Green Bay and attended UWGB as first generation college student excited to learn about all things interesting.  As an undergraduate Danica explored many different majors and minors from physics, biology, and pre-med, to philosophy and literature, eventually earning her BA in Studio Art with an emphasis in painting and drawing. She continued her education at Miami University of Ohio earning her MFA in Painting and Drawing in 2006. Danica has taught university classes in painting and drawing, 2D and 3D design, led multiple community art projects, and has exhibited her professional work across the Midwest. Currently she is the owner of Danica Oudeans Art where she mentors artists of all ages to reach their creative goals. She also enjoys cooking creative dishes from fresh veggies from her large garden, skiing, and hiking in the Northwoods of the U.P. with her husband Rob and two sweet dogs Sylvie and Mabel.

DAnica’s Residency focus:
I have has always enjoyed working with my hands. As a child I have spent long hours learning to sew my own doll patterns by hand, knitting and crocheting blankets and scarves for family, piecing together quilts for new babies, drawing and painting portraits of siblings and weaving “baskets” and “fort walls” from the grasses in the farmer’s field behind our childhood home. My art has always been an experimentation with materials. Whether pushing paint around with my fingers during my undergraduate studies, experimenting with the integration of pattern and embroidery in my paintings during graduate school, or creating multimedia sculptural paintings in my “Intimate Spaces” series. the manipulation of materials and processes with my hands is a defining thread of my work. Most recently I have been learning to weave on a floor loom and spin my own yarn from raw wool.  I hope to create a series of experimental samples by weaving of old paintings, unexpected materials, various fibers, and perhaps working with additional painted or felted elements on top of these woven histories. I would like to welcome all in watching as my experimental process unfolds in the studio.
